Cardiology
Echocardiography
Ultrasound evaluation of the heart to detect murmurs, arrhythmias and congenital or acquired heart disease.
When it's recommended
- A heart murmur found during a routine check-up
- Coughing, reduced exercise tolerance or breathing difficulty
- Breeds predisposed to heart disease (e.g. Cavalier King Charles, Boxer, Maine Coon)
- Monitoring an existing cardiac treatment
How the exam works
It's a non-invasive, painless procedure that usually doesn't require sedation. It takes about 45 minutes and can include an ECG if needed.
